A Boyzilian is one of those treatments men often think about for months before actually booking. The questions are completely normal — and the answers are simpler than you’d expect. Here’s exactly what happens, start to finish.
The Boyzilian (also called Manzilian or male Brazilian wax) is the most complete form of male intimate waxing — removing hair from the pubic area, shaft, scrotum, perineum and inner buttocks in a single appointment. It’s one of the most requested treatments at our Downtown Toronto clinic, and the vast majority of first-timers tell us afterwards that it was far less daunting than they expected.
This guide answers every question we regularly hear from first-time clients, so you know exactly what you’re walking into.
What Exactly Is a Boyzilian?
The Boyzilian is the male equivalent of a Brazilian wax for women. At our clinic, a full Boyzilian includes:
- Pubic area (above the shaft)
- Shaft and base
- Scrotum
- Perineum (the area between scrotum and buttocks)
- Inner buttocks
You can also add the full buttocks and butt crease as an extension — many clients do both in a single session as a Boyzilian + Buttocks combination.
Boyzilian vs. Manzilian: These terms are used interchangeably and refer to the exact same treatment. Some clinics use one term, some use the other. At Toronto Men’s Waxing & Laser we use both — they mean the same thing.
Before Your Appointment
A little preparation makes a meaningful difference to your comfort and results. Here’s what to do in the days leading up to your appointment.
- Hair length: Hair needs to be at least ¼ inch (6mm) long — about 2–3 weeks of growth after shaving. Too short and the wax can’t grip; too long and we’ll trim it down for you.
- Exfoliate gently: A light exfoliation 24–48 hours before helps lift dead skin and reduces the chance of ingrown hairs afterward. Don’t do it on the day itself.
- Avoid caffeine and alcohol: Both can tighten the pores and make skin more sensitive. Skip them for a few hours before your appointment if you can.
- Shower beforehand: Clean skin is more comfortable to work with and ensures better wax adhesion.
- Skip numbing creams: Over-the-counter numbing creams are generally ineffective for this area and can interfere with wax adhesion. They’re not recommended.
- Wear loose clothing: Comfortable, loose-fitting underwear and pants after the appointment will reduce irritation while your skin settles.
During Your Appointment — Step by Step
- Arrival & Brief Consultation
We’ll confirm it’s your first time and ask about any skin sensitivities or medications. This takes just a couple of minutes and helps us tailor the treatment to you.
- Private Room & Setup
You’ll be shown to our private treatment suite. You’ll undress from the waist down and lie on the treatment table with a towel for coverage. Everything is conducted with complete professionalism and discretion.
- Cleansing & Pre-Wax Application
The area is cleansed and a light pre-wax oil is applied to create a barrier between the wax and your skin — this protects sensitive skin and helps the wax grip only the hair, not the skin itself.
- The Waxing
We use a hot wax strip technique — hot wax is applied directly onto a cotton strip, which is then pressed firmly onto the skin and removed in one smooth motion. This method gives the practitioner precise control over wax coverage and pull angle, which is particularly effective for the contours of the intimate area. Your practitioner will work methodically through each section. Some repositioning is needed — we’ll guide you through this naturally.
- Finishing & Aftercare Application
Once waxing is complete, any stray hairs are cleaned up and a soothing post-wax lotion is applied to calm redness and close the follicles. The whole appointment typically takes 30–45 minutes.
How Much Does It Hurt?
We won’t pretend it’s painless — but it’s also far less intense than most first-timers expect. The sensation is a quick, sharp pull lasting a fraction of a second per section. Most men describe it as uncomfortable rather than painful, and manageable throughout.
A few things that affect your experience:
- First time is the most sensitive — with regular waxing, hair grows back finer and sparser, and each subsequent session is noticeably more comfortable
- Technique matters — our hot wax on cotton strip method gives precise control over each pull, keeping the sensation short and consistent throughout
- Time of month matters — skin tends to be more sensitive in the few days before and during your menstrual cycle if applicable
- Relaxing helps — tensing up increases discomfort; slow breathing makes a real difference
Questions We Hear Every Time
This is the question almost everyone thinks but rarely asks. Involuntary responses can occasionally occur — it’s a physiological reflex, not a reflection of anything else. Our practitioners are completely unfazed. It resolves on its own and the appointment continues normally.
Only if you make it. Our practitioners perform these treatments every day and approach the appointment with complete clinical professionalism. By the end of the session, most clients are chatting comfortably. You’ll likely feel more relaxed about it than you anticipated.
Yes. We use fresh applicators for every client, never double-dip into wax, and maintain full clinical hygiene standards throughout. The treatment room and table are sanitized between every appointment.
Just say so. We can pause at any time. That said, most clients find that once they’re through the first pull or two, continuing is easier than expected.
Results typically last 3–6 weeks depending on your natural hair growth cycle. With regular waxing, hair comes back finer and the smooth period extends. Most clients book every 4–5 weeks for maintenance.
After Your Appointment — Aftercare
The 48 hours after your wax are when your skin is most reactive. Following these steps keeps things comfortable and prevents ingrowns:
- No heat for 24 hours — avoid hot baths, saunas, steam rooms and intense workouts that cause heavy sweating
- No sun exposure — freshly waxed skin burns more easily; keep the area covered or out of direct sun for 24 hours
- Loose clothing — tight underwear or pants create friction on sensitive follicles; go loose for the rest of the day
- No swimming — chlorine and salt water can irritate open follicles in the first 24 hours
- Exfoliate from day 3 — gentle exfoliation starting 3 days after your wax prevents ingrown hairs by keeping follicles clear as hair begins to regrow
- Moisturise daily — keeping the skin hydrated between appointments reduces sensitivity and improves results over time
Ingrown hairs after waxing? Men with coarse or curly hair are more prone to ingrowns in the pubic area. If this is a recurring issue, laser hair removal may be worth considering — it permanently eliminates the follicle, so ingrowns become impossible. Read our guide to laser treatment for ingrowns →
Boyzilian Wax vs. Laser — Which Lasts Longer?
Waxing delivers immediate smoothness that lasts 3–6 weeks. Laser permanently reduces hair growth — after a course of 4–6 sessions, most men see up to 90% permanent reduction. We offer both at our Downtown Toronto clinic and can help you decide which makes more sense for your goals.
