Individualized Care
Acupuncture for Pain & Musculoskeletal Concerns

Pain can have many causes and presentations. Your appointment begins with a review of your health history, symptoms, activities and treatment goals. Charles then develops an acupuncture approach based on the assessment and your individual needs.

Depending on the situation, treatment may include traditional acupuncture alone or selected complementary techniques such as electroacupuncture, cupping or Gua Sha. These techniques are used when appropriate rather than automatically included in every treatment.

Complementary Techniques
Additional Treatment Options
Electroacupuncture
Gentle electrical stimulation may be applied through acupuncture needles when clinically appropriate. It may be considered for selected pain and musculoskeletal treatment plans.

Fire Cupping

Gua Sha
Gua Sha is a traditional technique using a smooth-edged tool over selected areas of the body. It may be incorporated into treatment for muscle tension or other musculoskeletal concerns when appropriate.

Common Questions
Pain Acupuncture FAQ
Can acupuncture help with pain?
Acupuncture is used by some clients as part of their care for pain and musculoskeletal concerns. Whether it is appropriate for you depends on the cause and nature of your symptoms, your health history and your individual assessment.
How many acupuncture sessions might I need for pain?
There is no single treatment schedule that applies to everyone. Frequency varies according to your symptoms, how long they have been present, your health history, treatment goals and response to care.
Do you offer acupuncture for back pain and sciatica?
Yes. Clients may book an assessment for lower-back pain, muscle tension or symptoms associated with sciatica. Charles will review your presentation and determine an appropriate individualized treatment approach.
Is acupuncture for pain covered by insurance?
Charles Guo is a CTCMPAO-registered Acupuncturist and official R.Ac receipts are provided for eligible acupuncture services. Coverage limits and reimbursement depend on your individual extended-health plan.
What causes the marks after cupping?
Cupping can temporarily leave circular red or purple marks where suction was applied. The appearance and duration vary between individuals and according to the intensity and duration of suction.
Can I combine acupuncture and RMT massage?
Yes. Charles is registered as both an Acupuncturist and Registered Massage Therapist, so both services can be booked during the same visit when desired. Each service is documented separately.
