Acupuncture for Digestion & IBS
Digestive concerns can include abdominal discomfort, bloating, changes in bowel habits, nausea and symptoms that become more noticeable during periods of stress. Because digestive symptoms can have many causes, an individualized assessment is important.
At 4Seasons Massage & Acupuncture, Charles Guo, R.Ac provides individualized Traditional Chinese Medicine acupuncture for clients seeking complementary support for IBS and other digestive concerns.
Our clinic is located at 2 Carlton Street, Suite 720 in downtown Toronto, steps from College Subway Station. This service is part of our Toronto acupuncture services.
Digestive symptoms vary considerably between individuals. Treatment is based on your health history, current symptoms, TCM assessment, medical care and personal goals.
Traditional Chinese Medicine considers digestive symptoms within the context of your overall health pattern. During your consultation, Charles may ask about bowel habits, appetite, abdominal symptoms, stress, sleep, energy and other relevant factors.
TCM concepts involving the Spleen, Stomach, Liver, Qi and other traditional patterns may be used to guide point selection and treatment planning. These terms refer to Traditional Chinese Medicine theory and are not equivalent to conventional biomedical organ diagnoses.
Your acupuncture treatment is individualized rather than based only on the name of a digestive condition.
The digestive system and nervous system interact closely, and some people notice changes in digestive symptoms during periods of stress. IBS in particular can involve interactions between the gut and brain.
When stress and digestive concerns occur together, both can be discussed during your acupuncture assessment. Treatment remains individualized and does not replace appropriate medical evaluation of persistent or changing gastrointestinal symptoms.
People living with Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis or other diagnosed gastrointestinal conditions may sometimes seek acupuncture as complementary care.
Acupuncture does not replace medical treatment, prescribed medication or follow-up with your physician or gastroenterologist. Please tell your acupuncturist about your diagnosis, medications and current medical care before treatment.
Some clients with digestive concerns also experience stress or muscle tension. Because Charles is registered as both an Acupuncturist and Registered Massage Therapist, clients who prefer both approaches can book acupuncture and RMT massage during the same visit.
Each service is documented separately. Insurance eligibility and reimbursement depend on your individual extended-health plan.
