Your Body’s Internal Cleanse
What Is Manual Lymphatic Drainage?
Unlike traditional massage that targets muscle tissue, Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a light-touch, rhythmic technique that focuses on your body’s lymphatic system — its internal waste disposal network. By using precise, skin-stretching movements, our RMTs encourage the flow of lymph fluid to flush out toxins, metabolic waste and excess fluid.
The lymphatic system has no pump of its own — unlike the heart which pumps blood. MLD acts as a manual pump, stimulating the lymph vessels to carry waste out of congested areas, reduce inflammation and restore healthy immune function throughout the body.
Because it is performed by a CMTO Registered Massage Therapist, every session is fully claimable under your extended health massage therapy benefits. This service is part of our registered massage therapy services in Toronto.
Available at our downtown Toronto clinic at 2 Carlton Street, Suite 720 — steps from College Subway Station at Yonge & Carlton.

MLD + Acupuncture Combo Toronto
MLD clears the physical lymphatic pathways. Acupuncture addresses the internal energetic root of inflammation, immune dysregulation and fluid stagnation. Together they create a healing response that neither modality achieves alone.
Charles Guo is uniquely positioned to deliver this combination as a dual-registered CMTO RMT and CTCMPAO Registered Acupuncturist — two receipts, two benefit categories, one visit.

Got Questions?
Frequently Asked Questions
Does lymphatic drainage feel like a regular massage?+
No — MLD is quite different from a regular massage. It uses very light, rhythmic, skin-stretching pressure rather than deep muscle work. The strokes are deliberate, slow and almost meditative. Most clients find it incredibly relaxing and often fall into a deep sleep during the session.
Who is MLD for — is it only for women or post-surgical patients?+
MLD is for everyone. While it is well-known for post-surgical recovery and pregnancy edema, it is equally effective for men and women dealing with chronic edema from venous insufficiency, prolonged desk work, medication side effects or lymphedema. Athletes use it for recovery, office workers use it for leg swelling and anyone can benefit from a monthly immune and detox session at our 2 Carlton Street downtown Toronto clinic.
How soon after surgery can I start MLD?+
Most surgeons recommend starting MLD within the first 3 to 7 days after a procedure, but always consult your surgeon first before booking. Early sessions are critical for preventing fibrosis and reducing swelling. We recommend 2 to 3 sessions per week during the first 4 to 6 weeks at our 2 Carlton Street clinic near College Subway, then tapering to weekly maintenance.
Is lymphatic drainage covered by insurance in Toronto?+
Yes — 100%. Our lymphatic drainage sessions are performed by CMTO Registered Massage Therapists at 4Seasons Massage & Acupuncture, so you receive an official RMT receipt after every session. This is fully claimable under your massage therapy extended health benefits with all major Canadian insurance providers.
What is the difference between MLD and Brazilian lymphatic drainage?+
Traditional MLD uses very slow, light feather-like strokes focused on therapeutic lymph movement — ideal for post-surgical healing, edema management, immune support and lymphedema. Brazilian Lymphatic Drainage is a more vigorous, dynamic variation focused on body sculpting, de-bloating and aesthetic contouring. Both are performed by our RMTs at 4Seasons Massage & Acupuncture and are insurance covered. Learn more about our Brazilian Lymphatic Drainage Toronto service.
How many sessions do I need?+
For general wellness and seasonal detox, 1 session monthly is a great maintenance routine. For chronic edema or immune support, weekly sessions are recommended initially. For post-surgical recovery, 2 to 3 sessions per week during the first 4 to 6 weeks post-op provides the best outcomes. Your practitioner will build a personalized plan at your first visit.
Can I combine MLD with acupuncture for a total wellness reset?+
Absolutely — and this is one of Charles’ signature approaches at 4Seasons Massage & Acupuncture. Acupuncture addresses the internal energetic root of inflammation and immune dysregulation, while MLD physically clears the lymphatic pathways. Together they create a powerful total-body detox and healing response that neither modality achieves alone.
