Acupuncture with Gentle Electrical Stimulation
What Is Electroacupuncture?
Electroacupuncture is a form of acupuncture in which a gentle electrical current is applied between selected acupuncture needles after they have been inserted. Small clips connect the needles to an electroacupuncture device, allowing controlled rhythmic stimulation.
The intensity and frequency can be adjusted throughout the treatment based on your comfort and the goals of your session. Some clients describe the sensation as a mild pulsing, tapping or buzzing.
Electroacupuncture is not necessary for every acupuncture treatment. Charles may recommend traditional acupuncture, electroacupuncture or another approach depending on your health history, symptoms and individual assessment.
Treatment is available at our Toronto acupuncture clinic at 2 Carlton Street, Suite 720, steps from College Subway Station.

Got Questions?
Frequently Asked Questions
What does electroacupuncture feel like?
The sensation varies depending on the settings and treatment area. Some clients describe a mild rhythmic pulsing, tapping or buzzing. The intensity can be adjusted throughout the session based on your comfort.
Is electroacupuncture appropriate for everyone?
Not necessarily. Your health history is reviewed before treatment, including medications, pregnancy and implanted medical or electrical devices. Charles will determine whether electroacupuncture is appropriate for you or whether another acupuncture approach would be more suitable.
How is electroacupuncture different from traditional acupuncture?
Traditional acupuncture may involve manual stimulation of selected needles. Electroacupuncture adds controlled electrical stimulation between selected needles. The treatment approach used depends on your individual assessment and treatment goals.
Is electroacupuncture covered by insurance?
When electroacupuncture is provided as part of an acupuncture treatment by Registered Acupuncturist Charles Guo, R.Ac., an official acupuncture receipt is provided. Coverage depends on your individual extended health plan, so please check your acupuncture benefits directly with your insurer.
How many electroacupuncture sessions will I need?
The number and frequency of treatments varies depending on your concern, health history, response to treatment and treatment goals. An individualized treatment plan can be discussed after your assessment.
How long is an appointment?
Appointments are generally approximately 45 to 60 minutes depending on the treatment. Your initial appointment includes additional time for assessment and treatment planning.
